Yesterday there was a decided chill in the air. Rain was predicted to start in the afternoon and continue for fourteen hours. I hunted for Captain’s sheet, found it and put it on him. This morning, I discovered that the sheet was no longer waterproof. A quick trip to Everything Equine and an unplanned expense, and he was all set.
“Winter is coming,” I told myself. And in that “Game of Thrones” state of mind, I thought about the significant role horses play in the HBO series. George R.R. Martin, the writer of A Song of Ice and Fire (which the HBO production is based on), portrays horses even in the book’s prologue.
“Nine days they had been riding, north and northwest and then north again, farther and farther from the Wall, hard on the track of a band of wildling raiders. Each day had been worse than the day that had come before it. Today was the worst of all.”
The cloudy skies make me want to burrow under a blanket and watch the series. Not as an experienced viewer, but as a rookie – viewing Season 1, Episode 1 for the first time. I envy the Game of Thrones beginners – they don’t know the adventures they’re in for, and they don’t know about the atrocious Season 8!
Instead of learning about House Stark, I’ll watch Captain roll around and cover his gorgeous Amigo sheet in mud!
