Grogginess from the eleven-hour car ride on Friday weighed me down on Saturday morning. When I couldn’t find my name listed in Long Stirrup 18 and over, I took it as a sign that it was best if I didn’t horse show. Later, I found out I had been searching World Equestrian Center Ocala instead of Wilmington (flashback to yesterday’s car ride).
Mid-morning found me sipping a pre-show tonic (2 Chamomile tea bags steeped overnight in 32 ounces of cold water) and imagining myself getting calmer. Captain, who was being groomed, appeared to have enough confidence for the two of us.
In the warm-up ring, I began to feel a wonderful energy. Here we were (after a few mishaps on my part) in a beautiful place on a gorgeous day. Captain moved well. My timidity decreased. We completed the Hunter class and earned a 1st place ribbon.

Early afternoon I nibbled crackers and peanut butter in my cabin and thanked all my lucky stars. We still had The Derby to compete in. Before I went back to the rings, I put a post-show tonic (Sauvignon Blanc) in the fridge.
