My sister chose well in asking me to accompany her to Greece. Did she know that in choosing a travel companion, you look for many of the same characteristics we seek in selecting a successful pasture mate for our horses?

Horses

Cindy and me

Compatible personalities

Cindy's quietness buffered my loudness

Matching energy levels

She walked briskly; I kept up by running

Similar dietary needs

We both enjoyed gelato and Mythos beer

A harmonious herd prevents bullying and injuries

We groomed our own manes, and no one kicked out unnecessarily

In the past Cindy traveled alone but I think I changed her mind on that.

After all, humans are like horses who aren’t fine being an “only child” and benefit by having a friend in the field.
