Captain and I will go to our first and last horse show of the season this week at Bravehorse. It’s been a challenging summer with my 30-day stall rest, intense heat, and vacation schedules.

However, the entire month of August, I’ve been focused on building stamina. Captain’s been focused on eating grass and staring at the cute, new pony girls that recently joined our barn.

Part of me wants to admit the days appear to be getting shorter, the shadows longer, and the sunrise a little later. But if I turn my thought to all things autumn, and I’ll lose my drive to spend a week horse showing.

So, for now, the yellow things falling from the trees are flowers, the Canadian Geese I see on the church lawn are robins, and Captain’s coat is not changing - it's just growing out.
